Futures thinking and the next 500 years

This workshop applies macrohistory to futures thinking. Grand patterns of history – linear, cyclical, pendulum, and spiral – are used to understand the present and the possibilities for the long-term future. Macrohistory is also used to understand organizational dynamics and alternative futures.

Course Objectives

  • Gain a foundational understanding of macrohistory as a framework for analyzing and interpreting long-term historical patterns and their implications for future developments
  • Learn to apply macrohistorical perspectives to the present day, examining how historical patterns influence contemporary events, social structures, and cultural trends
